The Open Water Test Facility (OWTF) at Wraysbury reservoir is a floating laboratory for test and characterisation of underwater acoustic transducers. The core capability requires the test object to be deployed at depth on the hoist station - to an approximate depth of 7 m below water surface. The large steel fixed gantry has a central shaft that is raised/lowered by means of electric wire rope winch. It is this winch that allows the test object to be positioned at the required depth.
The current winch units are obsolete Felco units dating from the 1980/90's and require replacement.
Each winch must be capable of deployment to an approximate depth of 7 m below water surface and 2.5 m clear of the surface when in its mounting position. The large steel fixed gantry has a central shaft that is raised/lowered by means of electric wire rope winch, which has a set of guide pulleys at the top of the fixed gantry.
The new winch must be integrated into the existing steel gantry and anchor points. The run of the wire rope is to follow the same path as the current installation.
The pulleys are to be replaced as part of the winch replacement to suit the wire rope diameter.
The winches are located outdoors in and exposed environment. As such all aspects of the installation must be suitably weatherproof for reliable year-round operation in all weather conditions.
